[Action, June 22]
As it is, he's out the door almost as soon as the whistle blows to signify the end of the event, glancing around for Elizabeth. Now, where is she...?]

[And, if she was being honest, she wanted to kiss him again.]
Gai! [She's moving over to him after a quick glance around. Almost automatically, she curls her hand around his elbow.] Do I have to chase anyone off?
no subject
When she slips her hand around his arm, he grins and rests his own hand lightly over hers.]
No, I think most of the girls here were looking for someone a little less dangerous than me. Not that I mind-- they weren't exactly my type either.

[ Preparing for Mission 14 - Sept. 6 - Sept. 7 ]
no subject
[It didn't help that there was already tension in the apartment due to Rosalind's appearance, and now there was one more thing that had been added on. Elizabeth realized that Booker being left alone with both Luteces could result in her returning to something she'd have to sort out between the three of them, but what choice did she have now? Could she even refuse to go?]
[She goes over her supplies and packs her necessities on the 6th, and then when the morning of the 7th comes she sits in her room and stares at her bags nervously. This had definitely been a mistake...]
no subject
So it's still early in the morning when she raps at the door, a short, businesslike staccato. It wouldn't do to miss her departure by sleeping in, especially not when she means to send her off with advice and the only advantage she is equipped to impart at the moment.]

But this is Elizabeth's first mission, and though he's seen her skills in combat, he knows she's bound to be nervous about this whole situation. Booker hadn't been picked, after all. It's just him and her and a rather vaguely-described situation that supposedly won't end in fighting... not that he's going to place any bets on that.
His knock is louder and firmer than Rosalind's, and if she'd had any question as to who was at her door, his voice should answer that much.]

[ Morning of Sept. 7 ]
... yeah, he's probably going to be trailing her like a silent shadow and pretending that he isn't doing anything of the sort. He'll start by going to her apartment to pick her up so that they can head to the rendezvous point together. (Besides, he has a feeling that if he doesn't, Booker will be out for his blood.)
When he shows up at the apartment door, it's in full Funeral Parlor uniform, Luger holstered on his hip. This Gai looks like a soldier, not a teenage boy, a fact which may come as a surprise to certain parental figure types.]

[During the alternate world, mentioned briefly here and there since, muttered about by DeWitt. Robert had done no obvious prying, but he kept his ears open. In matters like this, simple observation was enough.
The turquoise eyes that sweep Gai are critical. He holds different standards than Booker does, and one look won't suffice. So, for now, he reserves judgement.]

[Mission 14 - Post-IC Discussion]
"A backrub?" Elizabeth immediately looks less concerned and stressed and more curious. Laying down sounds great, and of course if Gai's suggesting it it's probably going to help.

September 26th - The Marathon
Yes! [Elizabeth isn't in love with the clothes, she is, however, in love with Gai. And she wants to be close to him as quickly as possible, just like he does. And if that means sacrificing her clothing, she would gladly do it.]
You owe me another pair of drawers, though.
September 26th - The Marathon
[He's already moving to grasp the hem of the chemise and mimic what he did the last time, intent on ripping it straight up the middle. This turns him on more than it probably should, really, but he's so focused on getting her naked that he doesn't stop to think about it.
That accomplished, he'll take a brief break to wriggle out of his own shirt and toss it aside before leaning in to kiss her as his hands grope for the buttons on her drawers. He might need a little help with those...]

[voice, October 15th]
I'm sorry about before. I didn't mean to hurt your feelings. The truth is, I'm just a spoiled brat like Gai said I was.
I let myself get upset and got confused. Instead of thinking things through, I jumped to conclusions and I ended up hurting you.
Sorry. [He just keeps repeating the word sorry over and over again after that.]
[voice-private, October 15th]
But I'm going to say this once, and then I don't want to repeat it ever again, okay? Gai has been very honest about his life before I met him. His role in your world, what happened to him in the past, his sexual life, almost all of it. So if you think you can surprise me, or play one of us against the other, you can't. Understand?
[She sighs, and it sounds like she's happy to get that out of her system. Today isn't a day to get angry for a long period of time, so she switches gears. Maybe Shu and Gai did argue and get into a physical fight, but Elizabeth knows Gai wouldn't have identified Shu as his friend if he hadn't cared at all. So she wants to care too.] Are you less confused now? Has someone helped you get familiar with everything?

His eyes wander around until he notices a familiar face. At first, Shu's hesitant to approach Elizabeth. She saw him stab Gai and he wondered if it was okay for him to talk to her. After waiting for a bit, he finally speaks up.]
Elizabeth?
[Is she really fine with what's happened? Shu has his doubts. He's bracing himself for the worst.]
[action, november 28]
Hello Shu, how are you doing today?
[Polite, if not overly warm. She still isn't thrilled about what happened the day Shu stabbed Gai, but she's making an effort for Gai's sake. And maybe a little for Shu, because it must have been exhausting constantly apologizing and berating himself.]

[Notes from Burial at Sea Elizabeth - 12/18/2013]
She'll understand, you just have to tell her.
[To Jade]
Maybe it was 'Maybelline'?
[To Booker]
Your Anna loves you. She did, she does, and she will. Don't keep Elizabeth in the dark too long, she wants to love you too.
[To Robert]
I would have been your student forever, and learned to love the things you love. Gone to museums, painted... just wasted time instead of spending days chasing a shadow. You have a chance to give her that.
[To Rosalind]
I'll miss your guidance, and the time we used to spend braiding my hair. I know the Elizabeth you're getting back isn't as practical as either of us might like, but she values your opinion. I know, I used to be her.
[To Gai]
Quand, les deux yeux fermés, en un soir chaud d’automne,
Je respire l’odeur de ton sein chaleureux,
Je vois se dérouler des rivages heureux
Qu’éblouissent les feux d’un soleil monotone ;
Une île paresseuse où la nature donne
Des arbres singuliers et des fruits savoureux ;
[There's also a large, thick envelope marked 'When She's Ready'. Inside is a long letter to herself, omitting certain details that she promised would be Booker's to reveal, but mostly containing advice rather than information.]
March 24th - The Ladies' Tea and Handgun Outing
[Ah, she'd slept late, but what was there for her to do, honestly? Lounge in the shade with a book? Daydream about her wedding dress?]
[Elizabeth stretches and rolls over onto her other side, watching as the sun peeked through the curtains. So quiet...]
no subject
But she has slept - and after that awoken, dressed, walked to the bakery, and returned with croissants. It is one of these that she bears on a plate as she enters Elizabeth's room without fanfare or introduction, setting it down on her bedside table along with a cup of tea.
Her lounging only earns a mild look of faintest interest.]

...You feel that, love? [She shudders--] It's going right through your nasal passage, past your eye socket-- [--and clenches her jaw, tries to stay quiet, can't move, can't even breathe.]
And what do you suppose this is for? Just a little tap-tap--
[Elizabeth bolts up, screaming and clutching her sheets. She's never woken up from a nightmare screaming, but there's still that sensation of that pin, in her head, and it was dark and all she wanted was--]
BOOKER!!!
[Action] March 25th
A nightmare, then? Usually he was the one who awoke screaming. This was a decidedly upsetting reversal of things, because if it was bad enough to make her scream like that...
Immediately he wraps his arms around her and pulls her close against his chest so that she can hear his heartbeat and feel that solid physical presence, even if she doesn't quite register who he is just yet.]
Elizabeth, it's all right. It was just a bad dream-- I'm right here.

The morning, it seems, falls to Rosalind. Calm and reason to soothe the emotions prior. He would play his part last, and he was content with that, certainly. And so, he waits for the right moment.
It comes an hour and a half after she returns with Rosalind. He puts on the record in the living room. Between the waltz melody and the French composer, Robert feels confident it will draw out a young woman with a fascination for both. A young woman he was encouraged by a very brave woman to show his affection for. It's time to be better about that.
