[Gai's smile is all innocence as he gives another quick squeeze, enjoying how it feels without any fabric between his hand and her.]

[Elizabeth grins and stretches up until she reaches his ear, so she can repeat herself. ]

Ga~a~ai...

[And maybe she's sliding a knee between his. ]

[And Gai can't help it-- the moment she slides her leg between his and breathes his name into his ear like that, he's arching forward, rubbing himself against her thigh with shameless abandon.

That is no fair. Absolutely no fair. And he couldn't care less.]

[Elizabeth giggles in response, shifting her hip to help.]

Don't you have to... [She looks down at where Gai is rubbing against her.]

Yeah, I need another one.

[DAMN CONDOMS. DAMN THEM TO HELL. Except not really, because he is so not ready to be a father anytime soon.

But they do make all of this rather inconvenient when all Gai really wants is to just be able to start playing around again.]

[Elizabeth ponders for a moment--] Do you need a new one if I just...

[She wraps her hand around him.]

I should still clean up, just to be safe.

[What a total mood-killer. Yeah, he is definitely going to talk to Law about that tea.]

[It really is. Elizabeth pouts and knocks her forehead against Gai's.] Hurry back?

[And he kisses her, starting out sweet and lingering but allowing a bit more passion to creep in as a promise of things to come.

He holds the kiss for almost a minute before pulling back and rolling out of bed to head out to the bathroom.]

[She likes that promise, even after is runs off to the bathroom. Once again, Elizabeth lays herself out in the warm spot Gai left behind, and thinks.]

I'm trying to think of something I should tell you. [Idly, she spins the thimble on her short finger.] ...but I'm embarrassed to say that I think you know everything.

You have no idea how much of an honor that is. Then again, I suppose the honor goes both ways. You're the first person I've ever told about that.

[As somber a subject as it is, he won't deny that it feels good to get it out in the open. One less skeleton in his closet, in a way, though there are still a few left. But one traumatic revelation is enough for the night as far as he's concerned.]

Yes, I'm glad you told me. I'm glad I could hear it from you. [She curls up a little more tightly in the warm spot and looks over at the bathroom door again.]

I guess I just don't have as many terrible things to tell.

And I'm glad for that much.

[No one, no one should ever have as many terrible things to tell as he does. He's well aware that if he were to write up his story into a novel, people would most likely decry it as being unrealistic that one person could go through so much.]

[She is too, she supposes. At least she wasn't in the hands of Comstock's scientists for more than six months. At least she wasn't killed for crying. But part of her does wonder...]

You don't resent it?

[At last Gai emerges from the bathroom and makes his way back over to the bed, quirking an eyebrow at her.]

Why would I? There's no point in being resentful over something that can't be changed. I learned that much a long time ago.

[This was the hand he was dealt. The only thing he can do is make the best of it.]

Yes, well, jealousy is real. Comstock couldn't have his own child, so he stole me. [She holds out a hand for Gai to take, a simultaneous invitation to climb back into bed with her.]

I'm going to try to make you the happiest man alive. I just wondered if my past would make you feel like you had to hide yours. Or that it would make you question how much I really understand.

[He takes that hand readily, climbing back in and curling up against her to pull her back into his arms.]

I think you're thinking too much.

[He punctuates that sentence with a kiss, then draws back just enough to rest his forehead against hers.]

I already am the happiest man alive thanks to you. Everything I've experienced was worth it if it meant that I got to meet you here.

['Thinking too much'? That was something that could happen? Elizabeth meets the kiss, though there's definitely some worry still there.]

So if someone had come to you, when things were at their absolute worst, and said that someday you would meet me, that would have made it easier to bear? Even in the moment?

Even in the moment?

[That does give Gai the briefest pause as he considers it. If someone had come to him on one of those days where he had questioned why he had survived at all, where he had doubted that things would ever get better, and told him that someday he would meet someone who would love him unconditionally and stay by his side and support him...]

... I think it would have. The one thing I'd wanted more than anything else for my entire life was to not be alone.

[The image breaks her heart more than anything that Gai's said so far. She can only see Gai trembling alone under a blanket of some sort, wishing he could have someone to care for him and stay with him.]

[The image was so familiar.]

If I could, right now, I would rip open a tear and find you when you're eight. And I would promise you all of that. [Elizabeth runs her hand over his cheek, her eyes watering.]

[Again he turns his head to the side so that he can kiss that hand and nuzzle into her palm. He understands why she's sad and doesn't blame her one bit, but he doesn't want her spending her time thinking about what-ifs and might-haves. The present is the present, and both of them have the future ahead of them.]

You can promise me that now... as far as I'm concerned, that's just as good.

But you were probably such a darling little boy. [She kisses his cheek and then his lips.] Round face, small shoulders, big wondering eyes. I would be absolutely helpless to resist.

Are you saying you don't like how handsome I am now?

[His tone is playful, teasing, and he tugs her right up against him so that her body is flush against the muscles of his chest and abdomen. Cheating? Perhaps it is.]

[Yes, it's totally cheating. But she doesn't really mind. Gai would have been cute as a little boy, but damn. He sure didn't have all of that when he was eight. Elizabeth bites her lip coyly, then starts lavishing attention down Gai's chest. Over his collarbone, down his sternum, hands and mouth.]

[Her attention to his chest draws a rumbling chuckle from him as he tilts his head backwards just slightly in order to give her more room to work. Yes, he's rather proud of his physique-- it did take hours of effort and training to obtain it, after all. She can enjoy it as much as she likes; there will be no complaints from him.]

I'll take that as a "yes."
