[To say that Gai was pleased that Elizabeth had signed up and been chosen would be something of an exaggeration. Oh, he's well aware that she's quite capable of looking after herself, but it would seem that relationships not only make him stupid and sentimental, they also ratchet up his protectiveness level by approximately 1000%. On the one hand, he'll be glad for her company. On the other... them being surrounded by people whose intentions he doesn't know, and who could quite possibly want to hurt them.

... yeah, he's probably going to be trailing her like a silent shadow and pretending that he isn't doing anything of the sort. He'll start by going to her apartment to pick her up so that they can head to the rendezvous point together. (Besides, he has a feeling that if he doesn't, Booker will be out for his blood.)

When he shows up at the apartment door, it's in full Funeral Parlor uniform, Luger holstered on his hip. This Gai looks like a soldier, not a teenage boy, a fact which may come as a surprise to certain parental figure types.]

So, you're the young man I've heard about.

[During the alternate world, mentioned briefly here and there since, muttered about by DeWitt. Robert had done no obvious prying, but he kept his ears open. In matters like this, simple observation was enough.

The turquoise eyes that sweep Gai are critical. He holds different standards than Booker does, and one look won't suffice. So, for now, he reserves judgement.]

Robert Lutece.

[The least he can do is offer a proper introduction and a proper, civil, though shallow bow before extending his hand.]

Gai Tsutsugami.

[Though he doesn't bow - he's never been much for that sort of gesture despite having lived most of his life in Japan - he does take that hand and give it a firm shake. Perhaps a slightly too firm shake, though whether that was on purpose or simply his idea of a normal greeting is impossible to tell.]

I've heard about you too, from Elizabeth. I hope she hasn't been telling you anything too terrible about me.

[Though his smile is relaxed, those grey eyes are taking everything in, studying this man the same way he would an opponent. Force of habit, he would claim if called on it.]

[Robert's bow is that of an Englishman of an older time, an indication of respect, even if his eyes say something entirely different. The motions, after all, bought him time in Columbia. Not sincerity.]

She's said very little, in fact. Barely anything, actually.

[What is she trying to hide about you? is the implication. Or, perhaps, it's a little more cutting than that. Is she ashamed of you?]

[This is something Gai is familiar with, that dance of sizing someone up beneath a veneer of hospitality and casual conversation. He feels right at home, in other words. He's used to people not trusting him-- that much, at least, comes with the territory of being labeled as a terrorist.]

Has she? Can't imagine why, unless it has something to do with what she mentioned about Booker possibly threatening me with a shotgun.

[He sees what Robert is going for, and he's not going to take the bait. Let the man make whatever assumptions he wants about him. Having a reputation is probably the last thing he's concerned about, here or anywhere else.]

Mister DeWitt [because in speaking to this stranger, he would show DeWitt every bit of respect he could muster for the man] has gone to great pains to keep Elizabeth safe.

Surely you can understand why he would be protective of her where a stranger to him is concerned.

[And, well. It went without saying that he might have received a better first opinion from DeWitt if Elizabeth had properly spoken of and especially introduced him beforehand.

But that was her error, not this young man's. Robert intended to speak with her on that point at a later time.]
