( oh thank god )
Twenty-five years of dance lessons and practical knowledge, at your service, if you need lessons. But don't worry, I'm sure you'll be fine. ( his return grin is just as bright as her's as he leans back in the chair. ) Well if you're dressing up, I suppose I should make sure that my dress uniform is clean.
( which might be more of a problem than anything else. but still. )

Of course. It's not my parade red-and-blues, but no one needs to run the risk of hitting anyone else with the swords.
( oh yeah, they still use swords. less these days than say, in the time of his grandfather. and no, he wouldn't care, but the image of elizabeth in a dress is one he'd very much like to see. if possible. )
It's a deal. And a date, then.

[ Early in the morning Harry leaves a package in Elizabeth's mailbox. It's simple enough, black paper tied with a gold ribbon. Inside she'll find a wool coat with shiny gold buttons made to her size. It has several concealed pockets throughout that a young lady on the go might wish to use to store any number of things. There is also a note attached. ]
Miss DeWitt,
You have my sincerest apologies that this has come somewhat after the holiday, though with circumstances as they are I'm sure you understand why it was delayed. I hope that this will serve you well in the future. Merry Christmas.
Regards,
Harry Hart

[ Harry opens the door only after a moment and smiles as he takes in Elizabeth in her lovely new coat. He's rather proud of it, all told. He'd modified the pattern from one he'd worked on back in the Kingsman shop, made the lines more elegant and suited to a young woman. The pockets were the sort he'd have made standard on all agent coats if he had his way. ]
Miss DeWitt. I hope I wasn't too presumptuous in leaving you a present. I am glad it seems to fit you so well, though.

[The connection crackles for a moment, most likely cloth being dragged across the microphone, before Jacky's voice comes on. She sounds flustered, high-pitched and thready.]
Ah, Elizabeth? Did you--d'ye see th' rules for shore leave? Are they bleedin' serious?!

( see the thing is: ivan likes elizabeth. she's beautiful, she's way smarter than he is, and she doesn't mind his flirtations. but being matched with her as 'this is the person you're supposed to be with forever and ever'? the idea doesn't sit well with him, as he's ducked numbers marriage attempts over the years. and will hopefully continue that trend in the years to come. so he's just going to avoid the implications and focus on the good things. like.... being paired up with elizabeth for date planet! )
Hey.
( frigging nailed it )
Hey.

( miles is gonna frigging kill him. )
Good morning, Elizabeth. I did notice, yeah. So I guess this is as good an excuse to have a date as any, right? Only, you know. For however long we're docked here.

You're a cruel woman, Elizabeth. But every night if you want.
( smooth recovery, ivan. good job. )

How am I supposed to go on, knowing that matrimony isn't in my future?
( he's going to spend five minutes squinting at the last two lines, because he knows what can be meant by those words. elizabeth had, however, expressed and interesting in just holding hands -- sure, ivan can make a girl swoon and unable to stand or walk, and he'd love to have a go with elizabeth for all of the above, but she'd made her desires clear. and normally that involves a little bit more than dinner and dancing.
surely he can come up with a response that isn't going down that road any more than she's already sent him on. )
Make sure you've got comfortable shoes. You don't want to have to spend half the night off your feat because they were too tight.

I suppose it's just as well. The life of the future Lady Vorpatril would bore someone used to the exciting adventures of a librarian.
( probably true. he doesn't even know what his future wife is supposed to do. )
Alright, if you're sure. ( but he perks up at the mention of a dress, and of elizabeth wearing it. ) Perfect timing, I'm sure you'll look amazing. I'll see you planetside then?
( this man has no idea. )

[ He's about to go into the wonders of custom tailoring versus things bought off the peg, but her holding his hand and telling him this was her first Christmas gift leaves him stunned quiet for a moment.
It's rather heart breaking. He clears his throat and puts his other hand atop hers. A young woman deserved to be treated so much better than that. ] I'm pleased you like it, truly. May you receive many more gifts in the future.

You've caught me at the perfect time, my time is yours if you'd like it. As is my tea.
[ He steps aside so she can come inside, the electric kettle sitting in its usual place on his desk. ]
I managed to acquire some chai tea recently if you'd like to try it. I've found it to be rather nice during the colder months.
