Good morning, Luceti! I'm twenty-one today!

[And clearly, she's just a little font of joy because of it.]

This is the first birthday I've had outside of my tower at home. I know Eugene had a rave, but what has everyone else done for their birthdays while they've been here? Or, I suppose if you haven't had a birthday here, what did you typically do?

[Elizabeth doesn't take the day off, even though it's her birthday. She's happy being out and about, enjoying the day and being in the village. She goes to the grocery store, pokes around the item shop and clothing shop a little, picks up some of Booker's preferred whiskey at Good Spirits... she's even running errands she really doesn't have to run. And while she loves the library, today she chooses to read for a bit outdoors--because otherwise she'd spend all day inside. It's a good day to be alive, and that's how Elizabeth is viewing it, and she's going to spend it out in the world. For the first time.]

Well hello there, birthday girl.

[Somewhere in the middle of Elizabeth's reading time there will be one (1) smiling Englishman leaning into her sunlight, followed mere moments later by an friendly white shiba inu snuffling at her hair in a none-too-stealthy ploy for attention. Since the transmission went out Jack's been at the battle dome, making sure an idea he's been toying with actually works, and he's finished with enough time to walk the dog before calling Elizabeth. Finding her outside and reading, though, works even better.]

Whirlwind day full of excitement, I see.

[He's in the item store at the moment, currently his face is buried in "Treasure Island. He only came in to get some stuff for Shu that he figured the guy would need. That's when he totally misses sight of Elizabeth and walks right into her. Stumbling back a bit he drops his own stuff.]

Ah darn it. Sorry about that.

[Just going to hastily start picking his stuff up.]

Happy birthday! Man, I totally thought you were younger... But hey, I'm all for making this birthday count. Let the birthday wizard show you the way!

Jack! [Elizabeth really hadn't though she could glow any more, but seeing a familiar face is wonderful. She grins up at Jack, then makes a startled but delighted sound when the fluffiest dog Elizabeth has ever seen comes calling. After a moment of uncertainty, she reaches out and pets Jack's dog.]

Hello to you too. Out for a walk?

Oh! I'm so sorry. [Elizabeth laughs a little and drops down to help him collect everything. She takes a brief glance up at who she knocked into and blinks.]

Oh... ah, I'm sorry. [She's sure that he heard her the first time, but things have gotten a little awkward now, haven't they? This is obviously the one she'd argued with over the mission, and the the boy she met during the experiment.] How have you been?

Nah, nah, my fault really! I was too caught up in this-!

[And that's when he freezes. He recognizes that voice and when he see's her face....ah nuts. Not good not good at all.

The same girl he yelled at then felt bad for and then hated himself over for his words is right in front of him.

When she asks him how he's been, he just about tenses. What's he supposed to say now? Crap, crap. Not good. Say something!

And in about the most somber tone he replies quietly:]

Been good I suppose...uh, what about you? You good?

I'll take that as a compliment.

And what exactly is the 'Birthday Wizard' proposing?

Happy birthday. [Shu doesn't want to be here! But he's trying his best not to be so annoyed about what happened before. ]

Nothing special, really. I'd just spend some time with Haruka. We were fine with things being simple. [He sounds like such a killjoy. Birthday parties weren't that big of a deal for him.]

What compli-...? Oh, right, right! Totally a compliment!

Well, for starters? It sounds like you get twenty-one birthday punches.

[Well, that somber tone really doesn't convince Elizabeth that he's actually good.]

I'm good too. [Elizabeth hands Cross some of the things he dropped.] It's my birthday today, first one I've spent outside of captivity. Exciting. [And there's a little smile in there even if the atmosphere is tense.]

...Wait, punches? That doesn't sound like something a wizard would do.

[Doesn't sound like anything Elizabeth wants either.]

Hey, it's one of those most important parts of the birthday! Maybe the wizards you know just don't have the right punch to them, you know?

Thank you, Shu. [She's trying too, but it's a little hard for her.]

Simple sounds good to me, too. [She's trying to be polite, at least? Even if she can't hide all of her annoyance from the previous argument.]

Mmhm! Can't blame Ranni, not wanting to be cooped up on a day like today.

[Jack takes a seat beside her as Ranni full-body wiggles blissfully into the petting, nose to wagging curly tail, nudging her head up onto Elizabeth's lap and looking up at her with the sort of soulful doggy eyes that probably count as emotional blackmail. Jack has a hand at her collar but seems anything but concerned. If anything, Ranni's acting like he feels, all keyed-up and excited. He just has the manners to not be nudging his face all over everything.]

Though I was going to call you pretty soon, actually. Do you have a spare hour or two this evening?

[Nooope. Still doesn't help much. She's smiling and she sounds pretty happy, but, it's still not enough to make all that awkward for him to go away. It gets a brief smile, however.]

Really? Yeah...you mentioned something about the being locked up thing...uh...Happy Birthday, uh...uh...

[A looong pause before:]

I'm sorry what was your name again? [Oh right, manners!] I'm Cross.

...Well, I suppose I don't actually know any wizards personally. And I suppose I haven't been punched by any either.

Still, being punched twenty-one times doesn't sound very enjoyable. Isn't everyone supposed to be nice to you on your birthday?

Hey, whoa, a rave is actually not so common an occurrence as far as birthdays are concerned... Jack just... well, he outdid himself this year in terms of throwing parties.

Just to clarify. But normally there's cake and candles, and friends giving thoughtful gifts.

Don't forget there's one more for good luck! But hey, it's being nice and having fun! It's not like they're really hard punches... most of the time.

Aww, I can understand that. You and I are quite alike, aren't we Ranni? [The pettings continue, Elizabeth grinning and giggling as she falls completely in love with Ranni's eyes and tail.]

I do! [Elizabeth looks terribly excited now-- someone's going to do something with her, on her birthday! Like most people did!] Booker and Robert have been kind of quiet today, I don't think I'd be doing anything except reading at home.

Elizabeth. [She smiles, not at all upset that Cross forgot--or didn't ask to begin with, she really can't remember now.]

Thank you, Cross. It's been a good day so far.

[Elizabeth bites the inside of her cheek and shifts from foot to foot.] I hear Shu is staying with you.

So what are you planning?

Did you get any ideas yet? [When Gai's not around, Shu's mature enough to not let his emotions get the better of him. He doesn't want to think about how this might make him mad.]

Twenty-two punches? [She groans.] Can I get them from a three-year-old kid?

Do you have any handy? I wouldn't object.

Well, I made plans with one of my friends for this evening. Just for a couple of hours. I'm not really sure what he has planned, to be honest...

So the beach was your cake, and the glowing necklaces were candles. Suddenly it all makes sense. [She laughs.]
