[This time, Gai actually stops and pulls away, a look of genuine surprise on his face. He'd known she missed him; she hadn't made that any secret, not with the way she'd wept and clung to him when he returned. That part wasn't the surprise.

That it still affected her even now, and that she'd made such a vow... that's the part that does surprise him, because despite all of her reassurances, there's still a deep-seated insecurity that he is, ultimately, replaceable.]

Elizabeth...

[The sense of awe in his voice is audible. Awe, and reverence, and a note of something else that isn't quite identifiable right away.

He's truly, honestly touched by her words.]

[The pause gives Elizabeth a moment to catch her breath, and catch up with what she's said. She means it, of course, but she hadn't meant to let it come out now.]

I had never thought there would be someone who could understand what happened to me, who wouldn't be afraid of me, who could see past all of it. There will never be another person like you, there will never be another courtship like this one. When I thought I had lost all of that, when I thought I had lost you-- [She huffs out a breath, keeping her composure as a result.] --I knew I would never be in love again.

[Slowly Gai's expression shifts from one of surprise and disbelief to a gentle smile full of love. True, Gai smiling isn't such a foreign concept, not anymore. It's just unusual for his smiles to be as soft as this particular one is-- he doesn't often show such open affection towards anyone, even Elizabeth.]

I couldn't love anyone who wasn't you. I realize that now too. It's ironic... back at home, Inori asked me about love, and whether she was in love with Shu. I couldn't give her an answer because I didn't know what love was.

[He sits up, then leans down to brush a kiss to her lips.]

[Elizabeth rises up to meet that kiss, feeling almost overwhelmed by the moment. Gai's smile, his words, his eyes, everything is threatening to make her cry.]

I know. God, I know. [She presses her forehead, hard, against Gai's, as if to remind herself that she shouldn't be so emotional right now.] I spent nearly six months wondering if I would ever see the sky again, if I would ever see Paris, ever know anything else but pain and hopelessness. I think I forgot how to feel towards the world, towards other people. Thank you, thank you for giving me this, for being mine to love.

[When she meets his lips with hers, he kisses back firmly, wanting to let her know that he's right here and that he isn't going anywhere. There's a strange sort of vulnerability in this moment, one that Gai is no longer a stranger to, yet it still manages to catch him off-guard every time it happens. He's pretty sure he likes it, though. As long as Elizabeth is the one causing it, he doesn't mind at all.]

I wasn't sure I could feel anything towards other people like this until I met you. As far as I could tell, that was something that had been broken out of me a long time ago. I wasn't even surprised when Inori chose Shu instead of me... especially not when she said it was because of how human he was.

Turns out it was for the best anyway.

[She laughs thickly, stroking his cheek with some urgency. As though wanting to convey that she was there too, that she would never choose anyone else to give herself to.]

One not-quite-human for another. I think that about evens it out. But if you want my honest opinion... [She slides her hand down to give Gai's length a quick squeeze.] I'm not certain anyone so normal or average could satisfy me anymore.

[That draws a low, pleased growl from Gai, and he arches into her touch with a smirk. He's quite ready for things now, as she can no doubt feel, hot and hard and wanting.]

Keep that up and you're going to make my ego even worse than it already is.

[He's both joking and being completely honest at the same time.]

But your confidence is what first drew me to you. [She shifts her hips and settles into a wider stance. She's ready too.] Why wouldn't I feed a fire that keeps me warm? [Grinning, Elizabeth noses at Gai's neck and nudges his hip with her knee.]

Judging by the sounds you were making, I'd say it was doing a lot more than just keeping you warm.

[And because two can play at that game, he slips his hand between her legs, finding her entrance and letting the tip of his finger slide in just the tiniest fraction.]

[When Gai puts his fingers back between her legs, Elizabeth expects more teasing. Feeling Gai start to press into her starts a shudder and gasp reaction. Yes, Gai did keep her warm. He kept her permanently set aflame, but that was one definition of 'warm'.]

Gai... [She thinks she's going to kiss at his neck, but the motor commands aren't coming to her. So she just hangs there, forming a sentence.]

He lets his hand linger where it is for just the slightest moment longer before withdrawing it and leaning down to give her another kiss, since her own motor functions seem to be somewhat stuck thanks to that hand.]

[He hates to have to move away from her, but he needs to sit up so that he can get the condoms out of the nightstand drawer. To his credit this time, he manages to open the wrapper and get it on without almost slingshotting it across the room, though he can't quite stop himself from joking about that little incident.]

Looks like this one wasn't fast enough to get away.

[And, of course, Elizabeth laughs at Gai's joke. It had been funny, even in the moment, to watch Gai's face as he fumbled with the rogue condom. But part of her is glad that there isn't going to be a delay while Gai opens another one. She lays back as he puts it on, watching how his hair falls with great fondness.]

What are you feeling like, now? [She tilts her head as she watches him.] Slow...? Or am I just too much to resist right now? [Again, she bumps him with her knee and grins.]

[Gai turns his head just a bit to the side to look at her as he finishes rolling it on, his smile evening out into something softer and less mischievous. It had been funny; even he can't deny that. Slightly embarrassing, but no less amusing. Not that he wants a repeat performance of that, though.]
