[Action] - Locked to Infinite + Gai

[The morning of April 9th brings excitement to House 36. Elizabeth wakes up, feeling maybe a little heavier than she usually does, but after a quick mental assessment brushes it off as nothing more than a desire to stay warm in bed, next to Gai.]

[She pulls brown hair out of her face to check the clock. Well, 8:36AM, it's probably time to get up and make some coffee for the house. A good minute is spent debating rolling over onto Gai and going back to sleep (interspersed with wondering how she got so twisted up in her nightgown--it feels like it's choking her now).]

[In the end, chores win out, but Elizabeth isn't going to completely deny herself. She stretches up and nuzzles up under Gai's jaw and kisses him there.]

Good morn--

[That was significantly lower than her voice usually is.]

[After that bit of fun, Elizabeth comes stumbling awkwardly out of her room--there's a man in Elizabeth's nightgown standing in the hallway and looking horrified.]

Roberrrrt!!

[Booker must never know. Which is clearly why she's screaming for Robert in the middle of the hall. But what could she do? The last thing she needed was Rosalind's thoughts on how to be a man, Booker would probably take one look at her and start drinking.]

[The feed starts up, and at least Elizabeth is no longer in a nightgown, but she looks just as panicked.]

No, this isn't a mistake in your journal, it's really me-- [She brings her thimble-covered pinky into the frame and rotates it.] --Elizabeth! But I'm-- I'm a man now!

[Blunt and to the point. She's too freaked out to dance around the problem and break it delicately though.] What do I do?! I don't know how to be a man, I've spent twenty one years being a woman!

[Maybe a little humor will add some levity to the situation. If nothing else, it should provide at least a slight distraction.]

I think I could deal with that. Might be interesting for a few days. Besides, they say you can't really understand someone until you've walked a mile in their shoes.

Why not? You'd make a better woman than I am as a man. [She pulls awkwardly at her nightgown, but decides that taking it off is definitely not in the cards. Suddenly she's very squeamish about Gai seeing her naked like this.]

For one thing, you'd have an easier time dealing with... one less appendage. Imagine waking up with a completely new one.

You look just fine as a man.

[Now he does sit up to get a better look at her... or him. Not that it particularly matters to him; Elizabeth is still Elizabeth, no matter what she may look like at the moment. Gender doesn't really play into it.]

No matter what appendages you may have or be missing, you're still the same person. You're still Elizabeth.

You don't have to be nice about it, I know I probably look strange.

[She pulls her hair over her shoulder and twists it, just like she usually does. Even if it's true that she's the same person, Gai couldn't be thrilled waking up to discover she was so changed.]

I'm still Elizabeth, but I'm not exactly what you signed on for when you got into bed with me last night. [She huffs a quiet laugh.]

[He's not going to give her a chance to respond to that, though. If words aren't enough to convince her, perhaps actions will be.

So he simply leans in to kiss her exactly the same way he would if she were in her usual body-- which means this isn't the most chaste kiss in the world. The message here should be quite clear.]

[Elizabeth's eyes go wide when Gai makes his approach, because she recognizes that movement and she can't quite reconcile it. So he does kiss her, and she does let it happen for a few seconds before she pulls away.]

Gai...! You don't... you don't have to kiss me if you don't want to, I'll be alright.

[Gai hums a quiet laugh before chasing after her to press another soft kiss to her lips, not wanting to let her get away that easily.]

I thought I'd mentioned that I like men too.

[The Shift at Malnosso World had been powerful, but not THAT powerful.]

[Clearly, this should have come up during their second or third date, instead of talk about flying cities and viruses. Elizabeth is a little stunned again, so Gai does manage to get his kisses in while she's absorbing this. It's not that she's bothered by the idea, but--]

No, you didn't mention it! I think we were too busy talking about our terrible lives to talk about simple little things like that! [She looks so incredibly devastated right about now.] So I have to make sure you're not looking at other women and men? This isn't fair at all!

[This time he does stop, sensing her distress. A part of him can understand it - under a technical definition, there IS more for her to be concerned about than with someone who is only attracted to women - yet at the same time, he's almost hurt that she would even think he had been looking either at other women or men while he was with her.

His response is to hold up his hand where his engagement ring gleams on his ring finger in the dim light of the room.]

I'm not looking at anyone else. I haven't since the day I met you-- I swear it on this ring.

[It should have been more of a comfort to realize that no matter what shape Elizabeth took, Gai would still love her. But perhaps the combined shock of waking up as a man and learning that Gai didn't limit his options, so to speak, made her a little more prickly and pessimistic than she usually would be.]

[She looks down at her own ring--it's still there, but it's definitely not coming off her finger anytime soon. After trying to twist it a little, she sighs heavily and presses her forehead to Gai's.]

I don't know, you said most of those girls at speed dating were too safe for you. There are some pretty dangerous men around, and some dangerously pretty ones. [She snorts softly.]

[He leans his head against hers in turn, a smile still playing about the corners of his lips. A year ago he would have laughed in their face if anyone had told him that he was going to fall in love, much less get engaged. A relationship like this was something he'd never even considered possible for himself, and now that he has it, the very last thing he would ever do would be jeopardize it in any way. His eyes are for her and only her now.]

Why would I want them when I've got the best of both of those things right here?

Oh really? You'd prefer it if I was a dangerous and pretty man instead of a dangerous and pretty woman? [She raises her eyebrows and grins, only teasing him.]

I'll take either one. The only difference is the package.

[Which... okay, he didn't mean for that to be a pun, but he won't be insulted if she takes it that way.]

Well if it's all the same to you, I prefer being a woman. I already have all the clothing for it, not to mention I've mostly figured out how to walk and carry myself... [She smirks and raises an eyebrow.] And I think you wouldn't like to teach me how to have sex again.

I prefer you as a woman too, and I'm pretty sure I don't need to explain why.

[He's done enough worshiping of her body to make that quite evident, he thinks.]

As far as teaching goes, that all depends on who's on top. Some things are more fun than others when you're teaching someone else.

[Gai is happy to keep reminding her as often as she wants to hear it, in part because he loves to say those things just as much as he loves watching her react to them.

The fact that they earn him things like nuzzling and kissing doesn't hurt either.]

[For right now, he'll simply let her imagination do what it likes with this information... and maybe lean in a little when he says that to purr it into her ear.]

Nnh, Gai! [Elizabeth pulls back and rubs her ear, laughs a little as though he had been joking.] You can't tell me that you're not feeling the tiniest bit strange about me suddenly being a man. It changes most of what you do when we're... intimate. It doesn't bother you at all that my words are coming out of a different mouth?

[If that fact is bothering him at all, Gai certainly isn't letting it show. The smile on his face is so casual that they could be talking about what they're going to have for dinner later.]

I already told you: different mouth or not, what matters is that you're the same on the inside. The rest of it I can adjust to. Besides, it's not as if this is going to be permanent.
