Because in the early nineteen hundreds, women weren't encouraged to go into the sciences.

Cambridge first accepted women in 1869. However, they attended a separate campus and received only mailed degrees.

[Simple, yes. Embarrassing. But true.]

Most of Rosalind's studies were done on her own, independent of a university, whereas I had the luxury of having that thorough education.
